I created this blog to document my running career which started just about a year ago.

Peachtree Road Race 2011
The weekend started at the Peachtree Road Race expo where Danny and I picked up our numbers. I was happy to see Jeff Galloway at his booth where he was gracious enough to pose with me for a picture.
The race itself can best be described as HOT!!! Temps were pushing 80 degrees by the time Start Wave "J" started at exactly 8:09:30am. I really like the new start wave procedure for starting this race. Instead of 9 numbered start waves there are lettered start waves (not sure how many) that have less people in them which makes for a much smoother start. Anyhow, I ran the race using a walk/run ratio of 1:30/:45. I did pretty well in the shade but running in the sun was very difficult for me. My time was not a record breaker by any stretch but it WAS my personal best for a Peachtree Road Race-1:16:39 is my official chip time. I can't be unhappy with that!
After I crossed the finish line (ran through 2 run/walk intervals!) I got my water, got my T-Shirt (eh, seen better, seen worse) and found the food. They moved the food to a spot that was MUCH easier to find than in years past. Publix rocks-they have the best post-race food! Then I wandered to the "D" balloon to wait for Danny to finish. He started in Start Wave "K" about 5 minutes behind me and finished the race in 1:29. Yep, I SMOKED him! ; )
Already looking forward to Peachtree Road Race #10 in 2012!! Until next time...

ONE YEAR IN
Wow. I’ve been a runner for a year! The Peachtree Road Race expo is Sunday and I have a clear memory of meeting Jeff Galloway at last year’s expo. I had stopped by his table to buy a book and he was there. I told him I had just started training for Disney and hoped his book would help. He was very gracious and signed my book. I’m hoping to see him again at this year’s expo so that I can thank him for his help in getting me as far as I’ve gone.
I’m still going strong and that makes me very happy. I don’t have a very long attention span and for me to stick to something this long a period of time is not quite a miracle but it comes pretty close. I think the key is to always be looking for races to train for. I currently have 3 races I’m registered for ranging in distance from 5K to a half marathon. There’s money involved so you can be sure I’ll be at the start line for all of them!
I’ll be sure to post my Peachtree time after I run the race. While I’d love to run a sub-60 Peachtree I don’t think that’s a very realistic goal so I’ll just shoot for beating my Reagan 10K time of 1:11.
Until next time…

Running to celebrate what, exactly?
Greetings! I started this blog to celebrate my love for running. In order to celebrate my 50th birthday in 2012 I am planning on running the Marine Corps Marathon and I'll be documenting my training here. I am a Jeff Galloway Run/Walk/Run disciple so you can expect to hear a lot about that training method as time goes on. (Info on Run/Walk/Run can be found at http://www.jeffgalloway.com) I've run 2 half marathons this year using Run/Walk/Run. The first was the Disney World Half Marathon in January. My goal was to finish in less than 3 hours and I ran it in 2:51. A little over 2 months later I ran the Publix Georgia Half Marathon and, using Run/Walk/Run shaved almost 10 minutes off my Disney time! My third Half Marathon is the Atlanta 13.1 which I will run in October. Hoping to finish in 2:30 or less.
Until next time...
